-
WB - Quality tested
- Recommended Usage
Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by western blotting. For western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.5 - 1.0 ?g/mL. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.
- Application Notes
Since SMAD2 shares a high percentage of identity with SMAD3, this clone recognizes both SMAD2 and SMAD3, which can be resolved by Western Blot.?

- Structure
- SMAD2 is a 467 amino acid protein with a predicted molecular weight of 52 kD. SMAD2 is very similar in sequence and structure to SMAD3.
- Distribution
-
Non-phosphorylated SMAD2 is present in the cellular cytoplasm close to the TGF-B receptor. Phosphorylated SMAD2 is present in the cellular nucleus bind to target promotor sequences.?
- Function
- The function of SMAD2 is mainly as a gene expression regulator. SMAD2 acts as a sequence specific transcriptional repressor.
- Interaction
- Non-phosphorylated SMAD2 interacts with SARA (SMAD anchor for receptor activation) protein. Phosphorylated SMAD2 interacts with SMAD4 and other members of the transcription repressor complex.
- Ligand/Receptor
- SMAD2 is part of the TGF-B signaling pathway but it is not a ligand/receptor protein
